What's on this website?
This website contains images and information on all fish and other
animal species which are sold for garden ponds in the Netherlands and
Western Europe. Over the years this website has developed into one of
the main information sources on garden pond animals in Dutch language.
Why is this website made?
This site is made to provide accurate information on the species sold
for and kept in garden ponds. Most of the Alien species are also from
time to time encountered in the wild. They are believed to be released
as 'unwanted pets' because they became to large for a garden pond or
are difficult to maintain. The main aim of this website is to educate
pond owners about problems caused by Invasive Alien Species. The second
aim is to contribute to the understanding of pond-animals and this way
improve their welfare in captivity.
Will there be an English version of this website?
Yes, one day. But translating and adapting this site is time-consuming.
